What's Hardscape Design?

[Non-living stuff in your landscape]

Hardscape design is the parts that are not plants, so stone, wood, metal, poly materials, things like that.

Good hardscape design will incorporate functionality, aesthetics, and a dash of what will be low maintenance for the homeowner or business etc.

EAS always considers cost as a major factor in designs, as some landscape/hardscape design can be prohibitively expensive for some people. We always offer low-cost alternatives such as:

  • re-purposing material in your yard like bricks and wood
  • extending your "Buy Again" mentality on Amazon or Wayfair to include landscaping and hardscaping materials. Always cheaper, especially on Amazon
  • shopping at Lowe's and Home Depot (here in the Northeast/Mid Atlantic), both in-store and online. Extremely competitive pricing

Great hardscape design, seen in images and videos on the internet, usually costs money. You have to decide how much you want to spend, and envision the space in the future, down the road a few years.

Landscapes and hardscapes always require maintenance so that they look good for years to come. On this note, natural stone such as bluestone, will survive the test of time and the elements (and your spilled wine and Zevia soda episodes) better than man-made concrete stones.

For wood, the sun and seasons and rain will be brutal on all woods, but harder woods tend to hold up better over time, too. Look for ipe, cypress, redwood, etc. to look amazing over time, but expect to pay significantly more for these types of wood.
